Free Art Friday on the 600 Block of Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL.

This is artwork that Jennifer Kosharek left for people to find an take home!

I worked on a new mural this past week.  Part of the wall I did about 6 months ago.  I decided to complete the area with paint… spray painting for me is a labor of love. I painted this with money from my own pocket as a piece of free public art.  The boat is the US Russo named after a friend of mine Regina.  She is an inspiration as she is a bright light of love for the community.  Please contact me if you would like to do a wall art mural for you.  evenoddgallery@gmail.com  Thank you!

INspired by this song this morning… decided to paint my car.  I started with writing down the lyrics on my car with spraypaint….

7 of spades

by Geri X

Songbird, leave me!
I don’t need you to tell me whats wrong
Im tired of fighting
All these demons that Im on
and I may be a lost cause
but I ain’t never hurt no one
while fixin’ the windows
I keep breaking and pulling apart.

You dance like the thunder
and talk like a crow
your lips are pure honey
you don’t even know

You look like the forest
and taste like gold gin
your eyes are the moon, kid
you make my world spin.

Songbird, leave me!
Thats enough confusion for a day
I don’t need you to sing to me
all your songs are memories replayed
and I may be a damned girl
but Im gettin’ along okay
Im tired of building, cities
from all the words I wont say.

Songbird, leave me!
in your shadow there’s never light
down 7th avenue
a black out, bad luck, spade fight
whiskey and traincabs
you’re a criminal one of a kind
I crossed you in the terminal
but seeing me wont change your mind.

And from here… It morphed into a giant explosion of color.  Yeah, I can no longer drive the get-away car.

A mural in the making… Hunter Payne, Reuben Pressman, and  Stephen Palladino.  I think Hunter and Stephen are doing the painting and Ruben is assisting with big chocolate chip cookies that also have M&Ms and telling the passers-by that they cannot look at the mural yet because it is unfinished.  “No Peeking,” was shouted several times while I was there.  Thank goodness I was allowed to peek.  Later a certain Zach Christopher in his green pimp suit and flip flops stopped by to heckle the artists. And after it is finished come by the Studio @620 and take a peek.

I had a fantastic Saturday night… started out at Ducan McClellan’s hot shop and then for something totally different… street art at it’s finest at Artissin!

And so she burns.  As is First Night Tradition… the art piece and all the resolutions and messages are burned.  Goodbye 2012!

The wonderful people who came out to First Night last night!

Remembering Bill “Woo” who died Monday night.  He was a fish painter, artist, friend and will be greatly missed.  One way a lot of us got to know Woo was at the Sake Bomb’s Wednesday night artists meet up.  The meet up was started by Derek Donnelly, of Saint Paint, and gave newbie painters and veterens a chance to rub shoulders and exchange ideas and tips.  Woo was encouraging to artists just getting their start.  Ok, we all just like drinking and hanging out  together.  I first met Woo through Cherie Doughtie of Cherie’s on beach drive fame.  Cherie sold our art as well as Chad Mize and Philip Clark, Katherine Michael, Hugo Porcaro, and Calan Ree and many more.  Last night’s artist meet up was a beautiful occasion… so many of the regular artists were out and sharing stories, tears and drinks.

Sebastian Coolidge rocks out this mural on the south side of St. Petersburg.  Check it out… I hear that it’s going to get repainted sometime in the future.  2400 Dr. MLK Jr. St. South.  St Petersburg, FL And if you need a haircut… stop by the Lat Sons Family Barbershop.  Ask for “MOE” 727.895.1347 and tell him Jennifer sent cha!

Free Art Friday. I’ve been doing free art friday… I don’t know… for a while now.  I guess giving away free art started when I was born.  My boyfriend calls me the “giving tree.”  Mail art was a very natural way for me to worm myself into the world of ART.  My first dabble with mail art started with an invite to a mail art show called, “Myth America.” If I tried to list every mail art show that I have been in since then… I would be hard pressed to find those wayward feathers released into the winds.  And thus the idea of Free Art Friday… fit into my scheme of making and giving.  I am cursed with the idea of making other people happy.  I am full of self doubt and fear… and even fear that my “found art” might just be seen as trash and thrown away by a city of St. Petersburg garbage collector.  Giving away art is more scary then selling art at times… People do not value what is free… Yet, here I am.  Giving.  And feeling no self-value.  Perhaps making me feel like… if i can just give you something that you will like.. you will… like me.  I realize that this is not how things really work.  Boys like girls who play hard to get.  Art collectors do not like the art that they like… but the art that they are told to like, that they are talked into, and the art that has such a high price tag that it MUST be worth something! Giving art away on free art friday—is my way of saying—if you like it, pick it up, don’t be afraid.  Free Art Friday is art for the masses, for humans, for us, for you, for me.
I will be art bombing St. Petersburg on May 4th.  I’ve made a lot of things—framed prints, postcard size original drawings and paintings, and even a set of hand silk screened, hand painted and hand dyed T-SHIRTS.  The shirts are amazing, really, I think… if you like that sort of thing.
Also on May 4th… I will be stuck all day working in my gallery—eve-N-odd gallery.  So instead of sitting there sulking while the rest of the world will be collecting free art and such… I am having an event at the gallery—I will send someone special in your life—a hand made postcard.  All you have to do is show up and bring an address.  Simple, eh?  I hope you stop by.  Gallery will be open 10 am to 6 pm on May 4th!  See you then!
